Naval history and views
- USS Midway Museum — An aircraft carrier commissioned in 1945, now a museum at Burnham Navy Pier on the San Diego waterfront, with exhibits across multiple decks, guided tours and interactive displays. Official site
- Cabrillo National Monument — On Point Loma, a national monument that marks Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's 1542 arrival on the West Coast, with the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, tidepools and coastal trails. Official site
- Coronado Beach and the Hotel del Coronado — A wide, mile-long stretch of sand in front of the Hotel del Coronado, which opened in 1888 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977.
- Balboa Park — San Diego's 1,200-acre backyard, with museums, gardens and cultural attractions. The park grounds are free to enjoy, while individual museums and attractions may charge admission. Official site
